The Routes

Route 1

Route 1 is a route that takes you through the town of Heidelberg. The route starts in the Culla Uys Nature Garden and goes down to Fourie Street.

Fourie street is Heidelberg’s oldest street. On this walk you get to see a part of the town’s history. It then goes up Louw street to Muir street.

The gravel road takes you to the Bloekombos and from there you walk over the koppie to the left back to the nature garden. This is an easy walk, approximately 3km.

Route 2

Route 2 This is the Culla Uys Nature Garden. There are a lot of paths to explore in this tranquil nature garden filled with surprises, nooks and crannies.

On one of the paths – By taking a left at the second wood bridge takes you down to the river.

Eventually it will become a circular route back to the entrance of the garden.

This part of the route is still under construction.

Route 3

Route 3 This is the only route where no dogs are allowed.

This route starts at the nature garden. You go left at the house, Turn right into meadow street and then first street to the left. Turn right after walking over the water canal.

You are now on a farm road, You go past the gates. Please check that gate is closed – there are sheep in the fields.

The walk goes around the koppie where it meets up at Bloekombos. You can then decide if you want to walk back to the garden or if you want to walk in the forest. Approx 3.5 km.

A little bit of a hill to climb in the beginning, but eventually it evens out.

Route 4

Route 4 This route is at Quarrykloofdam. The dam is in a Bluegum forest just outside of town.

There are lots of water birds and a variety of other birds on the the veld which borders on the perimeter of the route.

This route takes you around the dam. It is an easy and nicely shaded route, surrounded by trees. It’s approximately 1.8 km long.

Route 5

Route 5 is a route that takes you through long the Duivenhoks River. This route is still under construction.

Route 6

Route 6 This route is the trail Run. It’s 4.2 km long and incorporates several aspects of all the routes as well as additional, more challenging sections for the adventurous.

Permits are available at Heidelberg spar and Heidelberg library. The cost is R10 per day or R100 per year.

Your till slip is your proof of payment. The permit is to ensure that the visitors understand the rules and abide by them.

No fires, no loud music or noises, no camping, no littering, no walking at night.

Leave the area where you walked in a better state when you leave as when you arrived.
